The Trump administration is reportedly considering a ban on Chinese AI firm DeepSeek, which could restrict the company from purchasing Nvidia's AI chips and potentially block American users from accessing its services, The New York Times reported on Wednesday.

These proposed actions are part of a broader effort to counter China's progress in artificial intelligence. DeepSeek’s rapid rise has caught the attention of both Silicon Valley and Wall Street, prompting U.S. officials to explore ways to limit China’s access to key technologies and American consumers.

In a related move, the White House on Tuesday tightened restrictions on Nvidia’s AI chip exports to China, building on previous policies introduced under President Biden.

DeepSeek’s AI models have gained traction among U.S. developers due to their affordability, pressuring American tech companies to lower prices on similar products.

However, questions remain over whether DeepSeek may have used proprietary technology without authorization. OpenAI has accused the company of replicating its models in violation of its usage policies.
